Chief Science & Innovation Officer

Patrick joined Biovac in 2003 and holds the role of Chief Science and Innovation Officer. He is a member of the Biovac Executive team and is an invitee of the board

His mandate is:

To develop and establish Biovac’s Science and Innovation strategy and Product Development Portfolio.
To build and secure funding partnerships for S&I projects.
To expand Biovac’s scientific/product development capability as globally recognised capability.
To lead Biovac’s stakeholder engagement and networking in Africa and globally.

Patrick has more than 35 years’ experience in the vaccine industry in South Africa and has been responsible for leading Biovac’s capability building in vaccine product development. He is a founding member and the Executive Director of the African Vaccine Manufacturing Initiative (AVMI), advocating for the establishment of vaccine development and manufacturing capacity in Africa. He served as Vice President of the Developing Country Vaccine Manufacturers Network (DCVMN) from 2019-2022 and is Chair of the Emerging Biopharmaceuticals Manufacturers Network (EBPMN) board. Patrick also leads the Vaccine Manufacturing Enterprise Working Group within the AU Covid-19 Commission.
